Grand Union

Providing Three Equal Services to One Client Group

Grand Union is made up of three Registered Providers – Aragon Housing Association, South Northants Homes and Rockingham Forest Housing – Wheldons provides comprehensive servicing, breakdown repairs and new system installation to their 11,000 homes across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.

The challenge

In providing an equal and comprehensive service to three Registered Providers across a blend of rural, urban and suburban geographies, further challenges include:

• Introducing a digital works management solution which boosts productivity across all three landlords

• Monitoring and enhancing our skills profile to resource their requirements, such as extensive solid fuel-heated properties in rural areas

• Helping to meet their energy efficiency challenge

The solution

Our Directors and Senior Management attended regular Resident Information Forums to help mould our service delivery to the needs of the end customer – the tenant – through measures such as:

• Introducing new technology to make our service operate more efficiently, including an early adoption of PDA-based mobile working

• Recruitment and training is locally focused, so that our delivery team are truly part of the community

• Fuel poverty and home comfort issues have been addressed through a variety of means, including the pro-active introduction of air-source heat pumps to reduce fuel costs, and weather compensators to improve comfort in the home
